“Every part of YYGS was amazing but I reckon that Family Time was the most memorable. I loved meeting my “family” and observing how we became closer with every seminar. It was an awesome place to share our experiences and to learn from each other.”

Mariafe Barrantes

“Attending YYGS has certainly given me a more diversified point of view of the world. I met many different people from very contrasting backgrounds, but I discovered that we all had a passion for learning and a genuine interest in growing as humans. It was truly eye opening to discuss and debate in topics like racism, misogyny and religious discrimination in such a diverse group of people, and still maintaining the conversation respectful and fruitful.”

Shekinah A. Kanamugire

“YYGS was a fantastic summer program, and I did learn a lot. One of the things I learned is to analyze everything. In order to know the cause and effect of each and every thing because most of the time we are shown the advantageous part only.”

I attended an online conference called IMUN (International Model United Nation). I was on the UNDP (United Nation Development Program) committee, and the topic we discussed was protection of land life through sustainable production and consumption.

Alice Oliveira

“I felt empowered [by YYGS] to promote social change in the world through theater and advocate for intersectionality because there is nothing more powerful than comprehending who we are and embracing our identities.”

Santiago López-Moreira

“I cannot emphasize how impactful YYGS has been in my life, and I know this will prevail in the future, by opening my mind to new perspectives and ways of thinking around the world, teaching me that age is not a limit for goals, dreams, nor solving the most critical challenges of the present and future world.”

Sophia Stumpf

“YYGS brings together students from all around the world, and I loved getting the chance to get to know them and be inspired by their ideas and perspectives. Albeit online, the Yale spirit and the love for learning that each student brought with them to their Zoom meetings made it feel as though there were no screens to separate us at all.”

Jack Wyss

“[YYGS] offered me the chance to dive deeply into interesting topics with dedicated learners from around the world. It also challenged me to think critically about my own literary work. I am currently writing a collection of short stories and was struggling with a difficult section of the book at the same time as my YYGS session. I eventually used what I learned from the seminar to complete the first of three stories.”

Anna Júlia Morais Schwarz

“YYGS provided me with an idea of what I would find in college and which type of people I would potentially be studying with, and let me out of the “bubble” that high school is, mostly in a country where extracurriculars are not valued. YYGS was a really important step for my personal growth and it gave me a vision of the world I wouldn’t be able to acquire without a global program.”

Thazin (Thiri) Than

“As a first generation low income student, I never believed that I had the potential to attend prestigious pre college programs, or be exposed to a Yale education. Although miles apart, the loving community at Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) of instructors and students fostered a memorable connection through academics and deep group discussions, proving that any student, despite their background, is worthy of opportunities.”
