Residential Life

Experience Our Residential Program

YYGS Residential offers a rare opportunity for likeminded students from around the world to meet at Yale’s historic campus. Students spend two weeks living in college dormitories, eating at Yale dining halls, and learning in an environment that encourages student collaboration and diverse, global perspectives.

Common Questions

What are the benefits of attending a residential program?

Participants will take part in an academic curriculum that exposes them to cutting-edge topics in academia, all while meeting friends from around the world and experiencing life as a university student. Residential students will also have limited free time where they can explore additional opportunities that Yale University and the greater city of New Haven have to offer, including renowned Yale libraries, research facilities, local restaurants, and more.

Do I need to be vaccinated in order to participate?

YYGS no longer requires that student participants be vaccinated for COVID-19.

If students at Yale Young Global Scholars test positive for COVID-19, they must self-isolate until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-lowering medications AND their symptoms show improvement. If a sick student misses more than two days of YYGS, parents will be asked to pick-up their student from the program and bring their student home.

If a student’s fever resolves in 24 hours without fever-lowering medications and their symptoms improve, they will resume routine program activities but take additional precautions for 5 days to prevent the spread of infection to others: wear a well-fitting mask, take steps to improve air flow, distance from others, and wash hands frequently.

Note: While YYGS is excited to host residential sessions on Yale University’s renowned campus, we recognize the varied challenges this endeavor presents for our globally diverse community. For any students with concerns about these risks for any reason, we understand and encourage you to consider if YYGS is the right choice for you at this time. We want our students and their families to feel safe and comfortable with their decision to attend YYGS.

Do I need a student visa in order to participate?

Most students apply for a B-2 visitor visa. Please visit our Visa and ESTA Information page for additional details.
