Arrival & Departure Details

Arrival & Departure Information

All participants must enter their arrival and departure plans by either March 4 (Early Action deadline) or May 5 (Regular Decision deadline).

Check-in time: Between 10:00am-3:00pm EDT on the first day of the session (Sunday)

Check-out time:  Between 6:00am-11:00am EDT on the last day of the session (Friday)

YYGS is an entirely residential program, and in 2026 all students will stay in either Benjamin Franklin or Pauli Murray residential colleges at Yale. There are several affordable parking options nearby, and most families direct their GPS to Ingalls Rink, located at 73 Sachem Street, New Haven, CT 06511 as this is very near YYGS Check In across the street at Pauli Murray college. The most common way to travel to YYGS is to fly round-trip to JFK airport (New York City) and then book a GoShuttle van roundtrip to YYGS, but we provide other options (below) as well.

Students MUST exit campus gates by 11:00am EDT on check-out day.

Please review your check-in confirmation, check-out confirmation, arrival, and departure forms (accessible on your Application Status page) for further details.

Transportation Requirements

Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from our campus, unless the participant received a travel scholarship (this would have been indicated in the participant’s offer of admission letter).

Students traveling to the program must have appropriate identification to travel within the United States.

» ARRIVING BY CAR «

DIRECTIONS FROM NEW YORK CITY AND POINTS SOUTH

Take 95 North to Route 91 North. Take the Trumbull Street exit (Exit 3) in New Haven. Go straight on Trumbull through four traffic lights. At the fifth traffic light, turn right onto Prospect Street. You will see signs for YYGS Drop Off on your left as you pass by the gates for Benjamin Franklin and Pauli Murray residential colleges.  You can either park anywhere on Prospect Street, or you can turn left at the first light onto Sachem Street and park anywhere there. Please drop your student and their belongings off anywhere in this area.

DIRECTIONS FROM BOSTON AND POINTS NORTH

Take the Massachusetts Turnpike to Route 84 West. Stay on Route 84 to Route 91 South. Take the Trumbull Street exit (Exit 3) in New Haven. Go straight through four traffic lights. PARKING

If you are traveling to the program by car, street parking and nearby parking garages are available. We strongly discourage participants from bringing their own cars, as parking during the summer is very difficult to secure. Participants who bring cars to the program are not permitted to use their vehicles during the program.

» ARRIVING BY TRAIN OR BUS «

New Haven is served by the following train/bus options:

All trains and buses to New Haven stop at Union Station. Taxis are available at Union Station; drivers should be instructed to drop students off at Ingalls Rink at 73 Sachem Street in New Haven.

INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS

If you are flying internationally, we strongly suggest flying into John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City. JFK is approximately 80 miles from New Haven, Connecticut (CT), and is served by nearly 100 airlines from airports all over the world. Bradley International Airport (BDL) also has competitive rates for international flights.

If you are flying into:

  • Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut,
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City,
  • LaGuardia International Airport (LGA) in New York City,
  • Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey

…then you will need to arrange ground transportation to and from New Haven.

New Haven-Tweed Airport (HVN) is small and supports very limited commercial flights. International airports in Hartford and the Greater New York City area better serve the needs of most participants traveling to the program. If you choose to travel to New Haven via New Haven-Tweed Airport, you will need to take ground transportation to the Yale campus, as the airport is east of the city. Students cannot walk from New Haven-Tweed Airport to campus, because the airport is located several miles away from the University.
