Often times we forget to look at the other side of the debate, and this is something YYGS helped me overcome. As I returned back I have taken this approach in context to my academic as well as extra curricular activities.”

Upon returning from YYGS, I found a new approach to tackle deep-rooted social issues in my home country. Advocacy was something I had always passionate about. Learning the art of advocacy through filmmaking was a new approach but one that caught the attention of youth. Combining filmmaking with raising social awareness is something I have taken great interest in spreading throughoutout Pakistan.

By documenting the plight of the trans-community in Pakistan, recording generational account of stories of the 1947 Indo-Pak partition as a mechanism for conflict resolution, and shedding light on the importance of educational opportunities for girls, I have been able to host discussions and screenings as well as fundraisers to tackle these very problems our film highlights. Following our documentation of a woman living in a poverty stricken family, we were able to raise money to send her children to school. I plan to continue to spread awareness through impactful and engaging discussions, most importantly using filmmaking, as a captivating method to involve the youth of Pakistan
