“Attending the program really enabled me to become more confident and develop skills that I wouldn’t learn at my school, such as critical thinking and public speaking. I now consider myself to be a truly global citizen.”

I have recently taken up a leadership role in my schools Environment Committee and we have launched an initiative to help become a “green school” and to reduce our carbon footprint.  This involved establishing a partnership with the charity The Phoenix Trust, who are based in Wales and work closely with Cardiff University. The charity wanted to fund a school in Namibia, as well as a school in Wales to plant a small forest of trees within their school grounds.

Through a meeting with project managers, me and other members of the committee managed to persuade them to select our school- Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf, out of all Welsh schools, to execute their project. Students of my school will be involved in planting the trees in January, alongside the project managers, and as well as this, the first minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, will be attending the launch of the initiative. Through this project, we hope to develop valuable connections with Namibia, and to strive towards a greener, more sustainable future.
