In the beginning, I was worried about whether my points are good enough or not. However, my family members always respond to me respectfully and supportively, which boosted my confidence in public speaking. YYGS has taught me that great ideas are not born by a single genius; they are crystals of many individuals’ collective wisdom.

Before attending YYGS, I was just an onlooker of the COVID-19 pandemics, passively receiving information from the news. However, in the simulation project, we collectively proposed solutions to the education problems caused by COVID-19, making me realize that we have the ability and responsibility to act upon this situation.

After YYGS 2021, while checking COVID-19 updates on the WHO website, I noticed that CT images are more accurate than the current testing method. I wondered if COVID-19 patterns in CT images could be recognized by using deep learning —which culminated in my computer vision research paper, showcasing the model I devised based on U-net specifically for recognizing COVID-19. Compared to many state-of-the-art models, my model shows more accurate performance.

In the future, I propose to design an automatic COVID-19 lung infection tracking system, using the model I designed as the core of the system. The tracking system can record the continuous assessment of the development of the lung infection for each patient and reflect the change (e.g. sudden increase in infection area) to clinicians timely, thus creating a more advanced way of tracking patients’ conditions. Without the experience in YYGS, I would not have the courage to apply my knowledge to solve real-life problems. YYGS taught me to have the confidence and take the initiative to contribute our efforts to our community and to the world.
