Is YYGS Worth It?

December 28, 2022

On March 10, 2022, I received, along with happiness and excitement, the acceptance letter to the Yale Young Global Scholars Program. A moment that I will never forget, where I felt the pride and emotion of my family and friends for something that I accomplished.

My dad always says that “everything you do will open you doors to bigger opportunities and success”. This, for me, is very true because with good work you can achieve everything you want.

But everyone always says that by studying at any “Top Tier University”, you are being catapulted to the path of success, where you will acquire anything you want.

But when I started the program, I realized it was not like that. Because everyone there had something in common, all the students wanted to learn and get something out of the experience.

And that made me understand what “being on the path of guaranteed success” meant. Because it does not mean to have the most extensive collection of degrees or to have the most expensive car in the history of vehicles, but it is to have the cognitive ability to transfer all the information you learn and discover in the classroom to your daily life.

What I developed because I could connect with many talented people who were highly committed to everything we were learning in the seminars and lectures, spreading that feeling to everyone.

And not only generates the motivation in students to “open the microphone” and speak in front of everyone but also encourages the teacher to continue explaining and generate a change in the classroom.

During these two weeks, I was able to meet so many people who not only made my Instagram Followers count increase. But they also became real people whom I consider friends, even though I know they are on the other side of the world.

And that was what made it special because before you start, you fear that you won’t fit in with other people or that you won’t understand anything they’re talking about. But from my point of view, that is impossible to happen. Because you will always find someone with whom you have something in common.

And if someone reading this is curious, you comprehend a lot of things in two weeks, and I am deeply grateful for even deciding to apply because everything has been fantastic since then.

So, if you ask me, it is totally worth it.
