Yale Young Global Scholars Announces Online Sessions for 2022

November 10, 2021

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) today announced that it will host all 2022 sessions online. After speaking with prospective students and families, reading submitted applications, reviewing current travel restrictions and embassy concerns, and consulting with public health experts, it has become clear to YYGS staff that hosting the program online is the only way to prioritize the health and safety of the entire YYGS community while simultaneously honoring the program’s mission to be globally diverse, engaging, and accessible to students from all backgrounds.

“Since announcing we were exploring residential options in September, YYGS has worked closely with University colleagues to research campus safety protocols, vaccine requirements, and global travel limitations. Now, two months later, many countries still have limited access to the COVID-19 vaccine, while others are experiencing visa delays and international travel restrictions. In order to maintain the global diversity of YYGS 2022, we must host online sessions this summer.” -Elena Gosalvez-Blanco, Director of YYGS

YYGS is one of the most globally diverse pre-college programs in the world. Annually, the program serves over 2,000 students (with a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio) from 150+ countries, and distributes over $3 million in financial aid equally to domestic and international students.

“While we eagerly anticipate returning to campus in the future as much as our prospective students do, we are very proud of our YYGS Online program, which was designed entirely in conversation with admitted YYGS students over the past two years. Our alumni have repeatedly emphasized how our program is completely different than all their other experiences with online education, and we have been blown away by their feedback and stories.” -Zeva Manvi, Associate Director of Admissions, YYGS

All components of YYGS Online are live (not recorded), and the program offers morning and evening schedule options to accommodate all time zones around the world. Students join together with peers to participate in a range of dynamic, engaging activities that give them direct access to Yale faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as campus resources.

The plans for YYGS decision release remain the same. All Early Action applicants will receive an update by December 17, and this email will indicate either an offer of admission or deferral to the Regular Decision applicant pool. For students who are offered admission, they will have the option to accept or decline this offer by January 5, 2022.

For all other applicants, the Regular Decision deadline will remain January 10, 2022. Students continue to have the option to select their preferences for academic topics as well as available session dates. YYGS still plans to host academic sessions in STEM, social sciences, humanities, and cross-disciplinary subjects, and the YYGS 2022 session dates remain the same.
