Yale Summer Program Announces Return to Campus

September 23, 2022

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is excited to announce its return to campus since the pandemic began three years ago. YYGS recognizes the varied challenges that residential programming presents for its globally diverse community, and has outlined COVID-19 policies that provide participants full access to Yale’s resources, faculty, undergraduate and graduate student communities while keeping the community as safe as possible.

“Students and families from around the world clearly communicated wanting to visit and fully engage with Yale’s renowned campus and all of its resources, and I am proud of our entire YYGS community for waiting to return to campus until we could be sure that was both possible and safe. We know that means all students, faculty, and staff will be required to be up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccines as defined by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, which is difficult given limited vaccine availability in many places, but with early, transparent communication our hope is to help as many students as possible be empowered to apply for and access our program.” -Elena Gosalvez Blanco, YYGS Director

Historically YYGS is one of the most globally diverse, accessible pre-college programs in the world, annually serving over 2,000 students from 150+ countries and distributing over $3 million in need-based financial aid equally to domestic and international students.

Throughout June and July 2023, the Yale summer program will offer twelve academic sessions ranging from the humanities to the biological sciences. During each two-week session, participants will experience life as a university student by attending Yale faculty lectures, residing in historic dormitories, and exploring Yale libraries and museums. It will also be the first opportunity for participants worldwide to interact face-to-face since the pandemic began.

“Global diversity is the heart of our program, and we will continue to deeply support all our students (domestic and international) throughout the application and enrollment process. In particular, we strongly encourage international applicants to apply by the Early Action deadline in order to have as much time as possible to secure travel documentation (such as a passport and/or a visitor visa), flight itineraries, and to follow all COVID-19 travel protocols. By receiving a decision sooner, students will have more time to navigate these plans with their families and the YYGS team.” -Zeva Manvi, YYGS Associate Director of Admissions

Interested students can apply by the Early Action deadline to receive a discounted application fee. If the fee poses a financial burden, students can submit a fee waiver to reduce the application fee to $0 USD.
