Why Do People Love YYGS?

November 16, 2022

There are so many reasons why people want to attend the Yale Young Global Scholars… apart from being world recognized and globally diverse.

Honestly, I thought YYGS connect would be boring and all academics which is why I was surprised to see how much fun it actually was. Everything was fun, even the lectures and speakers not to mention I learned a lot from this but I would have to say family time was by far the best part of this experience. I got to meet people from all around the world, find out about their lives and make new friendships. The group I got was incredibly fun and amazing and I’m not just saying this cause they are probably reading this right now. This is my point of view and everyone has their own so what were other people’s favorite part of YYGS?

It seems like I am not the only one to enjoy family time “YYGS was an awesome experience in general, from the variety of seminars to the extraordinary lectures. If had to choose one specific component of YYGS that I really enjoyed I would probably pick family time. Even though it was online, we had the best time and I really learnt a lot about other cultures. The instructor always tried to include everyone and made it always a fun time.” –Giulia Cagnola

However Mara Moldoveanu has a different point of view “My favorite YYGS moments were the breakout discussions after and during the lectures, as it was the component that allowed be the most to think critically, to analyze the new information and to exchange experience and opinions with other students worldwide.”

In general Abbos Musaboyev says, “I realized the importance of communication in the world of entrepreneurship; I made sure that it is expected from a future social entrepreneur to be brave in his or her path; I understood that it is okay to not know anything in the beginning. YYGS made me realize that everything can be learnt during the process if drive and passion exists.” For the impact panel, “I liked the YYGS’s idea of inviting speakers from different fields and ages. If Beatriz gave me motivation to start, then, William presented me the diligence to pursue impactful projects…I expected Simulations to be difficult. Yet, Anna broke my expectations. She introduced the problem in a totally understandable way and directed us towards the project. Through mixing PLE, IST and SGC students during simulation, YYGS made it easy for our project to be ‘universal’ and ‘unique.’”

These are a few of the statements that my peers made after attending YYGS. However, if not all most people enjoyed YYGS Online or some components during the time. Some wish it could have been longer and wanted to extend it. It was hard for some people to go all those hours on their screen, but I think it was worth it in the end. One of the reasons for this was because I ended up making a lot of new friends who I still talk to, plus the lectures and seminars were really informational. I learned so much by the end of the two weeks.
