SGC 2021

YYGS has been one of the most enriching experiences I’ve ever had the honor of participating in. From its lectures led by world-renowned experts to workshops designed to inspire attendees, it made for an unforgettable program.

I disocvered a new student group within my high school, known as Global Leaders. Global Leaders, managed by a student-based Executive Board, is dedicated to hosting events revolving around academic and political interests for all high school participants. After an application process, I was accepted as a member of the Executive Board as the director of Social Involvement. I am in charge of coordinating group activities that would serve the purpose of supporting numerous communities as we work towards meeting their urgent necessities and their proper educational development through partnerships with regional NGOs and independent projects.

The Board and I worked towards brainstorming a new project that would benefit our student community while upholding our initiative’s values, which consisted of active youth and citizen participation through collaboration with the state government. Thus, a new initiative, YoGobierno, or I Govern, was born. YoGobierno has been defined to begin hosting a string of monthly roundtables, lectures, and panels as of March 2022, supported by the participation of different government officials in charge of numerous ministries within the state government as well as the state governor. Student-led roundtables will present the numerous concerns that the modern local youth faces, as well as an invitation that would seek to find short-term and long-term sustainable solutions to such issues, hand-in-hand with our high school’s students.
