SGC 2021

Another aspect of the programme I enjoyed a lot was simulations. Gaining the opportunity to work with other people on a personal project was very humbling. I learnt how to code a website using HTML and also made lifelong friends I hope to meet in the near future.

In the summer of 2020, a few of my friends created a charity organization (known as CVP ghana) with the primary aim of providing and giving back to the community, through initiatives that will improve the social welfare of the community. The first project involved helping the Atimatim community in Kumasi to combat the effects of COVID-19 by providing materials such as face masks, soaps, and hand sanitizers. The project was a success and they were able to provide materials for hundreds of families to help them battle the virus.

I was motivated to join the initiative and help families battling the negative impacts of the virus. I believe the skills I learnt from the YYGS sessions would help me improve the organization, raise more funds and reach a larger target audience. Our 2021 initiative involved providing football equipment such as bibs, cones, kits, speed ladders, and football boots for the Validus Juveniles (a subsidiary of Vision FC which is a local team in the Ghana Football League).

I am a part of the finance, design, and equipment team and my job is to create stocks of equipment and their various prices from multiple shops as well as their needed quantities, oversee all financial issues as well as control the spread of the charity’s information on Whatsapp, and also help with editing media which will be posted on our pages.
