“I have not always thrived in a school setting. However, the process of applying to and attending YYGS taught me how curiosity for learning is what it truly takes to succeed in an educational environment.”

Since attending YYGS, my friend and I founded a chapter of a club called Introspective at our school. This club focuses on teaching members lessons on neuroscience and psychology and we host events for people from all over our community to educate themselves on these topics. We have currently twenty-four members (all high school students) and are planning to pursue fund-raising events to help neuroscience research centers here in El Salvador. Especially with these topics being so taboo in Central America, I felt that as I am now a high school senior, I should set an example and start conversations on topics that matter. A unique aspect of our club is that members guide the lesson plan and we explore topics that interest us. Members also have the chance to write research papers on the topics we see and have them be published by the club. To learn more about Introspective, there is an Instagram page (@_introspective_) for the headquarters in Costa Rica, while the Introspective El Salvador Instagram page is still being developed (@instrospective.sv). It is a project I am genuinely passionate about and one that I pour a significant amount of my time and energy into.
