PLE III 2019

One month ago, I applied for an internship position at Heritage Frederick. Heritage Frederick is the historical organization within my county. They have their own museum and they also hold the county’s archives which researchers from all over the world use. After coming back from YYGS, I had an interview and I then received the wonderful news that I had been accepted.

I originally applied for the internship because of my passion for history. However, after learning more about my role I have made a much deeper connection with my position at the center this fall. One of my biggest dreams is to become an immigration lawyer since I am an immigrant myself. As it turns out, the center is opening a new exhibit which solely focuses on the role of immigrants within the county. We will be working with multiple cultural organizations in the county to make this exhibit possible. This includes the Hispanic and Asian-American Center of Frederick Country. I also host the Hispanic Club at my school so I hope to develop some connections with these centers to also expand the network for my club. In addition, I will be working with staff members of the center and interviewing possible contributors to the exhibit. To me, one of the best ways to create empathy towards immigrants is by sharing their story so I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with the center this fall. As the exhibit begins to develop I hope to share some pictures!
