This experience solidified my goals and taught me to advocate for what I want in life. I was exposed to diverse points of view that I would not normally understand because of my somewhat sheltered life. But, it was in the sharing of narratives that I realized people can achieve what they dream.

My initiatives were inspired by something Tony Robbins once said, which was “setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” I set my goals and I made two things visible. First, I started a study abroad information session at my high school with the help of the English Coordinator and my English teacher. I created a space where high school students could get to know more about the different colleges abroad, the application processes, scholarships, contacts and more. Second, I became a volunteer with a non-profit organization called Soñar Despierto. I coordinated the logistics of recruiting volunteers so they could spend the whole day with marginalized children. They engaged in different activities that encouraged play and instilled lessons amongst the children. This is not the only event; we organized a lot of other different events such as fundraisers, recycling initiatives, collecting trash from over the city and finally monthly visits to poor people or children with terminal diseases.
