Academically speaking, my strengths have never been in the humanities, so I was convinced that I’d have nothing to contribute and that my YYGS experience was going to be fruitless—how wrong I was. Despite the fact that I’m set on pursuing science in the future, having dabbled in the world of literature, philosophy, and culture for two weeks has underscored the importance to me of embracing interdisciplinary learning.

YYGS taught me to unleash my ambition and to use my passions as a way to bring value to those around me. Currently, I’m working with a group of my classmates to establish a HOSA-Future Health Professionals chapter at our school. During my sophomore year, I had founded my school’s Pre-Med Club but eventually discovered HOSA, an international organization with a powerful platform aimed at inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals and developing student leadership skills. I knew there was so much more that HOSA could offer to my school community, so with the help of my peers, we began the process of transforming our Pre-Med Club into a HOSA chapter. My hope is to get the chapter well-established at my school by the time I graduate this year, so that students will have a means of exploring their interests in healthcare for years to come.
