PLE III 2019

“It was primarily the lecture of Professor Akhil Amar that stuck with me the most. His passionate explanation of why he is a defender of an “original intent” interpretation of the U.S. Constitution and his interaction with students gave me the mindset to follow my interests in American history and law. My time at Yale has set my passions and goals for the future, ensuring that I will pursue the cross-section between political science and pre-law studies as I approach college.”

I am the first girl in the past 20 years who became the president of the student government of the state Saxony (LandesSchülerRat Sachsen) in Germany. The elections took place in November 2019, where I was voted in office for two years.

The student government of the state Saxony (LandesSchülerRat Sachsen) is the highest representative instance of the student population in this state. Our primary task is to maintain or expand the contact and flow of information with the over 200 000 secondary school students while communicating their interests to the ministry of education in Saxony. The main areas of work include career counseling, media education (digital education) and political education.

I see youth participation in educational issues as a chance to make a difference. The student government of our state shows that students who know exactly how it is to be in school and what it is all about can talk about education in our country. This means that students know best what is important for them in their everyday school life and what needs to be changed. That is why the student government of the state Saxony is committed to ensuring that students can shape their surroundings and that they too have a say in educational matters.
