If I were to describe YYGS in one word, I would say “Elevating.” Exploring thought-provoking topics, participating in enlightening programs, and interacting with the cultural melting pot that is the YYGS population combine to create an intellectually propelling environment. Each discussion felt fresh and exciting. Even with controversial discussion topics, the conversations flowed without discomfort because everyone was just excited to share their thoughts and hear the ideas of others. The atmosphere was always respectful and comforting, almost as if it was pulling you in to share your point of view.

While talking with my peers at YYGS, I noticed that everyone was very well rounded. Everyone had many fields of interest and excelled in a variety of aspects. Witnessing their versatility encouraged me to broaden my interests. Post-YYGS, I was beginning my senior year of high school. Throughout high school, I was someone who was always deeply invested in academics and athletics. However, convinced by my YYGS peers to expand my horizons, I decided to grow my artistic side. With that in mind, I specifically looked into digital art and film. I began learning Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and AfterEffects. I started to create designs, posters, and advertisements for the clubs and organizations in my local area (and one for my YYGS information session!). I also started making highlight videos for my friends consisting of their athletic highlights or video gameplay. I even became the social media manager for my high school’s newly established esports team. Interacting with the outstanding students at YYGS pushed me to step outside of my usual fields of interest and led me to discover a new passion.
