The program built a space for a community of curious students to thrive together. I particularly remember the Family Times and the discussions we had, bouncing ideas off of each other, and making friends with everyone there.
I’ve been working on several projects over the course of this first semester. One of the projects, implementation of mask recycling programs in our own communities, was a continuation of an idea I had developed with a friend from YYGS during the program. Although still in the beginning stages of the initiative, I’ve set up some temporary mask recycling bins at our school with the help of the environmental club I lead, CAUSE, and hope to build a sustainable system at the local hospital, our school, and perhaps a few of the state of Iowa department buildings.
