PLE 2021

During YYGS, one of the most interesting seminars was about gerrymandering and how to measure unfairness. During our seminar, we used real-life examples in various locations in the US and compared their shapes to those of low-income and marginalized communities. It was a concept that I could directly point to where I lived locally. And the best part was being able to use math to determine how “unfair” the shape of a district was.

Little time has passed since leaving YYGS, but currently, I am aiding my district’s racial group with new ideas on how to spread inclusivity through education. I have also become a tutor through my AVID and ESL program, where I aid students in various school subjects and guide them into rigorous programs. Now, I am in the works of creating a multiethnic social activist Instagram group with other high-achieving women of color. I have also become a QuestBridge Finalist and hope to see where it leads me next year!
