“Listening to presentations about the research that was currently being performed at Yale sparked my interest in fields I had no prior knowledge about, like biomedical engineering. Christopher Anderson’s tissue engineering research at Yale’s Qyang Lab and Melanie Reschke’s tissue engineering research at Saltzmann’s Lab resonated within me, and I left Yale inspired to conduct biomedical research of my own.”

Last semester I joined a new club: Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). My best friend Calvin Osborne joined the club with me, and we decided to compete together in Global Business.

On January 17, we went to the Illinois FBLA Northern Area Regional Conference at the College of Lake County. Over 1,000 students competed in a multitude of business events. Calvin and I utilized our strengths and spoke about our knowledge of Asian and European cultures, governments, histories, and climates to convey the importance of why these factors needed to be taken into consideration when expanding a company into a new region.

We won first place in our event! We were in disbelief, and honestly, I am still shocked that we won. Calvin and I will compete again in Global Business at state this April, and if we place fourth or higher, we will go to nationals in June.
