“During our first lecture, John Whalen spoke about the humanities field and the structure of the program. “If you’re not confused, you’re not thinking,” he said, and his words inspired me. YYGS is not about requests, grades, or showing someone what you learned. These are all important educational methods, but not more relevant than thinking and sharing your thoughts.”

I grew up with the thought that it was not possible to evolve. But YYGS taught me that knowledge can change lives. After the program, I developed an nonprofit project: a non governmental institution for low income childreen and teenagers, with the aim of uniting art and education to promote improvements and even social ascension. By founding this nonprofit I would be contributing to the development of the next generation, as YYGS did to me.

The NGO would be structured using an academic model, which would promote extracurricular activities in the humanities field. Volunteers would teach the most varied types of art, with a greater focus on appreciation of the local culture, as well as an understanding of cultures with which we have no daily contact, which would help create an environment against intolerance.
