Thanks to YYGS, I now have the self-confidence to apply to top universities in the UK, and it has also made me want to study a subject with international ties, since I enjoyed studying with students from other nationalities. The lecturers that I met were truly inspirational as they had not just dedicated their lives to their field, but that they were also humble enough to impart some of their knowledge onto us.
YYGS helped me clarify what I wanted to study at university, and what I wanted to do as a future career. My time in the programme and giving presentations promoting it to younger students in my area has helped me learn how to communicate with others and become a confident public speaker. The values of teamwork, research, dedication that are core to the YYGS programme are values that I intend to take forward in my studies and in life. I initially didn’t think I was good enough to apply to YYGS and I didn’t think I would be able to fit in with the international group of students there — I was wrong.
