I was most inspired by Memma Uponi who founded Forever Gratis. Listening to her talk about the work she does has inspired a lot of the work I do now. She spoke about women’s violence in Nigeria and how it goes unnoticed. As someone who is a sexual abuse survivor myself, I personally connected with her work. Since speaking with her, I’ve taken a lot of action myself. I’ve started writing for Muanzo Mpya, which is an organization that raises awareness for Kibera.

I’ve started writing for Muanzo Mpya once a month since August. The first blog that I posted focused on Kibera’s COVID response, my second blog was about living in Kibera with a disability, and my upcoming post will be about education in Kibera. Yale Young Global Scholars introduced me to the importance of raising awareness. Since I’ve combined that with my passion for writing, I’ve been led towards an entirely new path. I envision myself becoming a journalist for social issues and continuing to raise awareness for those who need it.
