LPC 2019

“I‘m proud to say that the LPC experience has provided me with knowledge and experiences that will carry me through the rest of my life. We attended a series of lectures, seminars, and breakout sessions where rich, quality discussions took place. As an avid fan of his book ‘Death,’ Mr Shelly Kagan’s lecture on The Trolley Problem is one that I look back upon and gush about even to this day. I also loved my second seminar, Dante’s Inferno, where we went through an in-depth analysis on the iconic Divine Comedy, Dante’s life, and the hidden themes and references within the different cantos. It further prompted my love for poetry and led me to writing my own book inspired by the poem!”

Inspired by my valuable experience at YYGS, I’ve taken part in a global initiative program at my school known as the GLLD (Global Learning and Leading Diploma). It is a brand new program in its pilot year, comprised of a small number of representative students in each grade from 10-12. This program was inspired by Duke of Edinburgh Award, a recognition scheme where individuals are encourage to participate in excursions, pursue interests, and develop skills that will enhance their future role in society. Similar to DofE, GLLD is a long-term program that will be in action throughout the student’s whole high school career.

Overall, though this initiative is only at its start-up stages, I am sure that this will be a meaningful experience. The over arching goal is for individuals to become increasingly aware of their abilities and perceptions of the world through their participation in a series of events and discussions. The program will live on even after I graduate, and hopefully, it will become a part of the student experience at my school.
