I am a board member, volunteer teaching assistant, and fundraising organizer for Horizons Delmarva, a community organization providing low-income students with an intense summer academic enrichment program and year-round support. I help young students who may not have strong academic support in their households gain academic confidence and a belief that they can succeed. The many lessons I took from YYGS made me a more effective teacher and mentor for students in the Horizons program. I am currently planning a COVID-19-friendly Holiday House Tour fundraiser involving selling tour books and maps of designated decorated homes in my community. I helped start this project last year when COVID-19 made our traditional dinner fundraiser impossible. It was very successful and I hope to make the fundraiser even larger this year.
