ASE 2019

“There was not one moment where I stopped learning, and I absolutely loved it. I mostly focused on engineering and science, but my knowledge also grew immensely in areas such as gender studies, algae biofuels, and the Middle East.”

I was selected to become a part of my school district’s Education Foundation Board of Directors. I am only one of two representing over 80,000 of my fellow peers, and every day I get to advocate for their needs in education and care within the system. Additionally, I was granted executive control of the Varsity Award because of my student membership. The grant amounts to $25,000, in which we will re-invest back into our high schools to support innovative programs and solve pressing issues for the benefit of my community.

The projects I have worked on include AP and ACT prep education, scholarships for seniors, and best of all, College and Career Videos, which are videos created by counselors and high-schoolers alike that cover everything students need to know about doing the most and best in high school to prepare for what comes after (to be universally distributed across the district starting in 2020). My position within APSEF also encapsulates much more. Still, I am extremely grateful for all the opportunities I have received, which enable me to give back to my community in ways I never even expected.
