Tuition and Scholarships

Tuition for each session of the 2017 Yale Young Global Scholars Program is $5,800 USD, which includes instruction, housing in one of Yale’s historic residential colleges, three meals per day, and optional health insurance. Processing fees are not included.

If you live in the New Haven area, you may participate in YYGS as a day (commuter) student. Please contact us for information about the tuition adjustment if you are interested in this option.

The $55 application fee is payable online when the application is submitted.
YYGS will waive the application fee if it would constitute a significant financial burden for the student’s family. An application fee waiver form must be submitted with the financial aid portion of the application.

A non-refundable deposit of $2,500 USD, payable online, is due two weeks after the decision release. The remaining tuition balance of $3,300 USD is due in May. Processing fees are not included.

Partial and Full Scholarships (Need-Based)

YYGS provides scholarships to students with demonstrated financial need. The application for partial and full scholarships are included in the online program application and must be completed by the 2017 application deadline. It is recommended that parents or guardians of applicants help students complete the required financial information.

We will award scholarship money based on need demonstrated in your completed application. Last year, approximately one third of program participants received full or partial scholarships based on financial need. Unfortunately, YYGS financial assistance cannot cover travel expenses, and we cannot guarantee financial aid to all those who apply for it.

What you need to submit: In all cases, students must report annual family income for the past three years, as well as the number of individuals in the household. A statement explaining why the student is applying for need-based financial assistance to attend the program is also required. Additional supporting documentation is required.

For U.S. students, supporting documentation should include a family federal income tax return from the most recent year available (2015 or 2016). If you do not have a federal income tax return, please contact us.

For international students, supporting documentation should include any of the following (please submit as many as can be conveniently be provided): (1) copy of the most recent income tax forms from the country where your parents pay taxes; (2) a letter from parents’ employer, stating position, salary, all benefits, and years of service; (3) a letter from a bank stating the amount of funds available to parents or student; (4) a copy of an award of any scholarship or loans that the student receives.

We encourage students from all financial backgrounds to apply for the Yale Young Global Scholars Program.

TRAVEL COSTS ARE NOT INCLUDED in program tuition or the scholarship package.

YYGS Fundraising Manual
In addition to receiving scholarship money, there are many ways to bridge the financial gap and raise funds to cover remaining costs. Each year, admitted students work with their extended families, friends, neighbors, schools, and community organizations to raise funds for tuition and travel to YYGS. We have put together a “tips” guide to assist your planning activities.
